Fillers & Injectables Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is the world’s most popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatment, and it’s the first treatment to receive FDA approval for temporarily lessening the appearance of crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines.

The treatment uses a carefully formulated version of Clostridium botulinum, a substance that is toxic in stronger concentrations. Used in aesthetic treatments, this neurotoxin prevents treated facial muscles from going through their full range of motion. That prevents your skin from being tugged and pulled into lines, wrinkles, and folds.

Treatments take just moments and require no advance preparation. Your results will develop within a few days and will last around four months.

If you like the more youthful, relaxed, and rested appearance Botox delivers you can return for additional treatment. Dr. Schuster also offers Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau®, which offer similar results.

What are dermal fillers?

A significant part of visible aging is due to collagen loss. When you’re young, you have a thick padding of collagen that smooths and plumps your skin. When that tissue wears away, your skin is left to sag and fall into wrinkles and folds.

Dermal fillers work to replace that lost volume. Most are formulated from a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in your skin. Fillers are administered via injection and work to plump and smooth your skin or add volume where desired.

Some of the areas where dermal fillers are used include:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Nasolabial folds running from your nose to the corners of your mouth
  • Marionette lines running from your mouth to your chin
  • Cheeks
  • Lips
  • Beneath your eyes

Dermal fillers can even smooth the backs of your hands or raise depressed acne scarring. Dr. Schuster offers the best dermal filler products on the market, including Juvéderm®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, Bellafill®, Captique®, and Sculptra®.

What is a liquid facelift?

A liquid facelift is a combination procedure using various injectables to bring you closer to your aesthetic ideals. Many men and women prefer this approach versus coming in for stand-alone neurotoxin or dermal filler treatments.

During your liquid facelift, Dr. Schuster evaluates your facial contouring and determines which products are right for you. Dermal fillers come in a wide range of formulations, and some are thicker than others or create a better shape in certain areas of the face.

He administers the injections in the precise location needed to create a beautiful yet natural-looking result. A liquid facelift requires no advance preparation and no downtime.
