Breast Reduction
Do you ever dream about what it might be like to have unlimited choices in clothing and physical activities, then wonder whether you should get serious about breast reduction in Boca Raton?
For some women with large, heavy breasts, breast reduction, known medically as reduction mammaplasty, can be a life-changing experience. That's because the procedure has the power to address a variety of quality-of-life issues. If your breasts cause shoulder, neck or back pain, if you suffer from painful bra strap grooves and irritated skin under your breasts, surgery can alleviate these conditions. With smaller breasts in proportion to your body, you may also find you feel more self-confident, more active and eager to try new things.
Breast reduction is often performed on women in their thirties and beyond, but it can be a good choice for younger women who are uncomfortable with their figure as well. It's also a popular procedure for weight loss patients. You don't need to wonder whether you're a candidate, you can request a FREE consultation to discuss Boca Raton breast reduction with board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Steven Schuster. He has treated many overly –endowed women before you and has compassion for the challenges you face. He'll take time to talk you through your options, and if you decide to move forward he will enjoy helping you look and feel more comfortable.
The Basics – Boca Raton Breast Reduction
At Schuster Plastic Surgery, your surgical plan will be designed with your unique needs in mind. Some women who need a minimal reduction may have incisions around the areola only, allowing Dr. Schuster to remove a small amount skin and tissue. Most women need incisions that circle the areola then travel straight down on the breast (a short scar breast reduction). Dr. Schuster moves the nipple/areola complex higher, reducing the size of the areola if needed while leaving the nipple connected to its blood supply. He removes excess skin, fat and glands from the underside of the breast and sutures the incisions closed.
Breast reduction can be combined with other plastic surgery procedures. People who have lost a significant amount of weight often choose to have an arm lift at the same time. Others make breast reduction part of their mommy makeover surgical plan to rejuvenate their figures after pregnancy.
Your Procedure, Your New Look
Dr. Schuster normally takes two to three hours to perform breast reduction surgery in Boca Raton. The procedure is most often done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia with sedation is a choice for some women. After surgery you'll go home with light bandages and a comfortable post-op bra to wear for two or three weeks. You'll have prescription medication to control discomfort and you'll probably want to take it for a few days.
You can expect to feel tired and sore for several days as your breasts heal, and you'll be instructed to rest as much as possible. You can gradually add activities back into your routine starting in about a week, returning to work in about two weeks. The great news is you will start appreciating your new, lighter contours almost immediately. As the swelling diminishes over several days, your excitement should grow and you may find yourself shopping for a whole wardrobe of new clothes for all kinds of activities.
Dr. Schuster has been performing plastic surgery in South Florida for many years and he keeps up to date with the latest advances in his field through continuing education and participation in professional societies. With his credentials and his experience helping hundreds of women like you, he's a good choice for breast reduction in Boca Raton.
Dr. Schuster Answers Your Questions
Even if you feel a bit self-conscious when you first come in, you'll probably find your consultation to be comfortable and rewarding. I'll take time to get to know you and learn about your lifestyle, then we'll discuss your concerns about your breasts and the options available. In the meantime here are answers to common questions about breast reduction in Boca Raton.
How long should I wait to have breast reduction after losing weight?
Ideally, your weight should be stable for several months before breast reduction surgery to achieve long-lasting results. Similarly, its best for most women to delay breast reduction until they're finished having children. There are exceptions of course, so a good way to plan your strategy is to come in for a consultation.
How bad will the scars be?
As you know, every surgical procedure leaves scars. Breast incisions normally heal quite well, and after several months most women find their scars aren't very noticeable. In any case, they will be hidden by your clothing, even bathing suits.

Will insurance cover my procedure?
Some insurance companies do not cover breast reduction at all. Some cover it in some cases. If you would like to attempt to get coverage, we'll be happy to work with you to provide the necessary information and documentation to support your claim.
