Do you look tired, angry, or worried no matter how happy you are feeling inside? The effects of time, stress, and age might be etched across your forehead in the form of horizontal creases, sagging eyebrows, and vertical "worry lines" between your eyebrows. Many women and men restore a youthful, refreshed facial appearance with brow lift plastic surgery in Boca Raton.

You can visit board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Steven Schuster for a FREE consultation in his Boca Raton office to find out how a brow lift can improve your look. Dr. Schuster listens to your concerns, and gives you the information you need to decide whether brow lift surgery is the right facial sculpting option for you.

The Basics – Boca Raton Brow Lift

A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that improves the upper part of the face by giving a lifted appearance to the eyebrows and reducing lines and furrows on the forehead. Most brow lift patients are between the ages of 40 and 60, but this procedure is appropriate for adults of all ages seeking a long-term plastic surgery solution in Boca Raton.

Many of Dr. Schuster's patients combine a brow lift with other facial sculpting procedures to refresh and rejuvenate their entire face. You might consider combining brow lift surgery with:

Some patients choose BOTOX® Cosmetic injections as a temporary, non-surgical alternative to a brow lift. Talk to Dr. Schuster to find out which treatments will meet your facial rejuvenation goals.

Your Procedure, Your New Look

Several different brow lift techniques can be used to improve your appearance. Dr. Schuster performs brow lift surgery using either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

Traditional Brow Lift (also known as Coronal Brow Lift)

Dr. Schuster will make coronal brow lift incisions in an inconspicuous area, usually across the hairline from ear to ear (similar to where the band of earphones would sit). If you are balding or have a receding hairline, he will customize the procedure to make scarring less noticeable. Next, he lifts the forehead skin, removes excess tissue, repositions or removes muscles, and lifts the eyebrows. He trims away any excess skin in any of these areas, and closes the incisions. This technique used to be quite common but is performed less often now because other techniques give similar benefits with smaller incisions and reduced recovery time.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

The key benefit of this technique is the use of an endoscope (a small surgical camera) to minimize the extent of incisions required. Dr. Schuster will make about four short incisions behind your hairline and insert the endoscope through these incisions to see which areas of tissue need to be repositioned. Because he does not have as much access to the muscle and tissue beneath the brow as he would using a coronal brow lift, Dr. Schuster may not be able to achieve as complete a rejuvenation and has limited ability to tighten surface skin. However, the advantage of much smaller incisions and faster recovery is attractive to many patients, and an endoscopic brow lift will achieve results very similar to a coronal brow lift in most cases.

Temporal Brow Lift (also known as Lateral Brow Lift)

This technique focuses on lifting, tightening, and smoothing skin on the forehead, around the eyes and on the cheeks. It is ideal for people who want to improve the look of the outside edges of the brows and cheeks. Dr. Schuster places incisions in the hairline at the temples, moving the underlying tissue horizontally and diagonally away from the center of the face. Excess tissue and skin is removed before the incisions are closed. This technique is less invasive than both coronal and endoscopic brow lifts, but will not achieve quite the same results.

Your satisfaction with your new look is Dr. Schuster's top priority when the Boca Raton plastic surgeon performs your brow lift surgery. He will work with you to individualize the procedures that will create the look you desire.

Dr. Schuster Answers Your Questions

I look forward to meeting you and answering your questions about brow lift surgery at your consultation appointment. Here are some questions I am often asked about brow lift plastic surgery in Boca Raton.

Will brow lift surgery alone address all of my concerns about my facial appearance?

Not always. Brow lift surgery can be just one part of a complete facial rejuvenation. If your upper eyelids sag in addition to your eyebrows, I might recommend eyelid surgery as well. Many patients choose brow lift surgery in addition to a face lift in Boca Raton for a more complete facial renewal. Be sure to clearly discuss your desires and expectations at our visit.

How long is the recovery period?

In most cases, you can return to work about a week to ten days after your brow lift surgery. Do plan on resting and taking a break from your usual activities at least for the first week. You may experience loss of sensation and mild to moderate swelling for the first few days after surgery. I can provide prescription pain medication to ease any discomfort at the incision site.

I will have you return to my office in about a week to remove your stitches or staples and to check on your progress. Some patients have itching for up to six months as the incisions heal and scars form. Expect some hair loss around the incisions, which may persist for a few months. Permanent hair loss following the procedure is rare.

Will I have any special restrictions after brow lift surgery?

Yes, temporary restrictions while recovering from brow lift surgery can include:

  • Keeping your head elevated for two to three days after your procedure to reduce swelling
  • Not washing your hair for a few days until bandages are removed
  • Limiting vigorous physical activity that increases your blood pressure, including jogging, bending, heavy housework, and sexual activity
  • Avoiding exposure to the sun and heat
